Selected from nearly 200 entries from six nations, Patriot Act is the first winner of the Mario Fratti-Fred Newman Political Playwriting Contest. This powerful and disturbing two-person play follows the fate of a conservative “everyman” caught up in the twisted logic of the Patriot Act, which turns even the most loyal citizen into a traitor and a terrorist, and leaves the Constitution an empty shell.

Valentina Fratti’s directing credits include: Jeff Daniels’ Apartment 3A, Young Playwrights Festivals (‘02,’03,’04,’06) at the Cherry Lane Alternative and the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre at Playwrights Horizons.  The Book of Wren, Innocent Thoughts, Prostitutki, and Near Normal are just a few of the plays she developed and directed at The Miranda Theatre Co., where she served as Artistic Director for ten years. She was the Associate Producer for Alfred Uhry’s Tony Award-winning play The Last Night of Ballyhoo on Broadway. She is a member of AEA, SSDC, the Lincoln Center Theater’s Director Lab and has served on the Steering Committee of THAW (Theaters Against War).
