A Season in the Congo is an epic drama about the end of colonialism in Africa. It chronicles the independence movement in the Congo, and the brief, brilliant tenure of the country’s first Prime Minister, Patrice Lumumba, whose vision of African self-determination remains powerful even today.
This is one of the few plays written by the late Aimé Césaire, one of the great surrealist poets of the 20th century and a founder of the Negritude Movement. First produced at Castillo in 1995, the new production will feature a core group of performers from Youth Onstage! and will be directed by Brian Mullin, Program Manager of the Youth Onstage! Community Performance School.
