Split Britches is a fiery
and funny lesbian-feminist theatre co-founded by Peggy Shaw, Lois
Weaver and Deb Margolin in 1981. Split Britches celebrates a community
of outsiders and eccentrics combining elements of vaudeville, cabaret,
popular culture, and performance art. They reinterpret traditional
plays and current events and celebrate and parody butch-femme identities
and their autobiographical experiences. The company received the
Village Voice’s Obie award in 1986 for Sustained
Excellence and in 1991 for Best Ensemble Performance.
