Sonia Sanchez is one of
the most significant and influential American poets to emerge from
the 1960s. Sanchez is the author of seven published plays and more
than a dozen books of poetry, and has received several honors which
include the Community Service Award from the National Black Caucus
of State Legislators, the Lucretia Mott Award, the Outstanding Arts
Award from the Pennsylvania Coalition of 100 Black Women, and the
Ford Freedom Scholar Award and the Robert Frost Medal.
