The San Francisco Mime Troupe was founded in 1959 and has gained international recognition, and a long list of awards, (including a Tony for Excellence in Regional Theater in 1987) for its edgy, humorous mix of politics, comedy, and music. Since 1970, the troupe has performed in their unique rough and tumble style, producing broadly satiric and musical shows that speak to people in their neighborhoods about violence, drug addiction, the misuses of power, the perils of hatred and greed, and the individual’s need to be informed and responsible.
