Presenter and playwright A.R. Gurney with Philippe Chemin, co-founder of Compagnie du Dahut Synthétique

2005 Recipient

Compagnie du Dahut Synthétique was formed by Philippe and Robin Chemin in 1991 to debut Phillipe's play Paysage (Landscape). This led to commissioned workshops with the prestigious ERAC Acting School in Cannes, including a production of Materiau-Heiner Müller, based on the writings of German playwright Heiner Müller. Compagnie du Dahut Synthétique became the resident company of the Comédie de Clermont-Ferrand national theatre in 1998. Philippe and Robin then took residence at the Forum de Blanc-Mesnil, Scène Conventionnée for the 2001-2002 season. There they conceived the drama cycle "Theatre Open to Poetry," based on the poetic texts of the Arab poet Adonis, French activist Aimé Césaire, and sculptor Alberto Giacometti. Since 2003, Compagnie du Dahut Synthétique has mounted several productions and two national tours of its latest piece, Le Roman Inacheve, by the surrealist Aragon.
